Precious as autumnal sunshine

I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house.

~Nathaniel Hawthorne

When I am liberated by silence, when I am no longer involved in the measurement of life but in the living of it, I can discover a form of prayer in which there is effectively no distraction. My whole life becomes a prayer. My whole silence is full of prayer. The world of silence in which I am immersed contributes to my prayer.
~Thomas Merton

So Simple

Just sit still at home in Silence and stop the mind from thinking.
That’s the easiest way, the simplest way.
For one week, I would like you to experiment.
I don’t want you to read any book.
Don’t look at any spiritual literature.
Just sit by yourself as much as you can.
And watch your mind, watch your mind.
Do whatever you have to do to slow down the mind, and then you’re going to be amazed.
You will laugh at yourself.
For when the mind becomes quiescent, Reality will rush in.
And you will see it so simple, it’s so simple.

~ Robert Adams
